About Misaal Mumbai
“Misaal Mumbai” is an initiative by Artist and Social Worker Rouble Nagi. It started with Paint Dharavi in 2012 and now in Bandra West along with numerous sites in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. Our project in Bandra West we painted over 285 plus houses in Jaffar Baba Colony, Mount Mary, Bandra West. Rouble Nagi and her team painted these slums by including locals and residents. We have trained some of the younger volunteers from art colleges in painting workshops and ended up employing 25 students to finish the project in less than a month. The result was an explosion of rainbow hues that would be visible from far away, stretching from one dwelling to the next in a wave of unexpected energy.
It is a quick way to create visual impact. Our projects will also employ people and give them a sense of ownership over the artworks they create in their own community while improving the condition of their houses. Street art opens a window for discussion and some positive news from places. Colourful surroundings will change the lives of the local community. The main goal is to give life to the slum and keep it clean and hygienic. Everything will be bright and colourful. Misaal Mumbai is not only about painting walls we have workshops on sanitation and hygiene for residents of the slum. With Misaal Mumbai we merely want to create interventions, that hopefully ignite some other change.
In the end, we hope our Project “ MISAAL MUMBAI” will help others to set up projects of their own, be it Mumbai or anywhere else in India. Its the first slum painting initiative in India. We are currently painting more than 13 slums in Mumbai including Dhobi Ghat (Colaba) , Ambedkar Nagar (Cuffe Parade) Machhimar Nagar (Colaba) and Kamathipura just to name a few.
I believe "until the interest of an artist shifts from the personal sensation to a sense of communal service, his work cannot grow. An artists work cannot take on real greatness until it bears the burden of people”.

Hashtag Bandra Sculpture Jan, 2017
As an artist I feel that #hashtag is “really a movement” and has been since a while now, the hope is that the hashtag will inspire action and serve as a springboard that people can use to launch themselves from online conversation to real-world action. In some way, the hashtag becomes a symbol of empowerment it creates an opportunity for sustained engagement and makes sure that governmental organizations know it and inspire further action.
Hashtag Bandra is the first “hastag” public art installation in the city. Concept Artist Rouble Nagi and the initiative is by (M.P) Mumbai North Central, Smt. Poonam Mahajan , Mumbai youth forum .

Paint Dharavi Project
Sharing Rouble Nagi Art Foundation's new initiative, you would be happy to know that a pilot project has already started along with the help of few other NGO's, it is still in the initial stages though. A CSR programme for the same will be started shortly.
Project synopsis:
Our project aims to provide an opportunity for people to transform their own neighbourhood from a place seen as negative into a place that is able to communicate its creativity, beauty and innovation to the outside world through art.”- Rouble Nagi
I have kickstarted a slum painting project where we paint the Roofs of one of the biggest slum in the city (Asia). We have decided to go big and paint the Roof of every building in Dharavi n a few other slums. Not only the overlook will change, the initiative gets employment opportunities to young boys and girls of the slum to be a part of this project. I hope to accomplish a happy and colorful makeover that will bring a significant difference to the neighbourhood and the city.
This Initiative carries a message of hope for a brighter tomorrow, As an artist I wish to create a beautiful ariel sight of Asia’s largest slum, We have launched “Paint Dharavi” campaign in Mumbai under my NGO Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, one of the largest unplanned communities in Mumbai, with a population close to a million inhabitants and a sprawling area of about 500 acres. The Concept of the initiative aims at painting the city and offering a makeover to the general outlook of where one lives, where buildings are usually left without without a finish layer of plaster and paint, resulting in jungles of concrete and red bricks.
I have attached a before and after arial shot of Dharavi, as you can see in the image the Roof of the hutments are brown and dirty. Its the most visible sight when an aircraft is landing in the city. I propose to paint all the Roofs of the slum, with the involvement of the communities living there.
This will look like a giant canvas from the sky. For any further information pls email us on : rnartfoundation@gmail.com/ info@roublenagidesign.com.
