In India, discriminatory attitude towards men & women have existed for generations & thus it affect the lives of both genders.Although the constitution of India has granted men & women equal rights, but gender gap still remains. @rnartfoundation Initiative Misaal India is a life changing program for the less privileged, aimed to help escape poverty while addressing key issues like gender equality & empowering women through skill development.MI Program is the first large scale initiative in the country which has created pathways towards women & youth employment. The mission was to launch into deeper, meaningful work with local communities, using Art as the gateway & medium of building trust.
Over the last 4 years we have worked extensively in Slums & Rural India where the earnings of a single household has gone up by 50% simply because the women have started contributing financially towards their homes. We were able to achieve this because of the skill centres which we have established in villages teaching women various skills like tailoring, nursing, house keeping, salon training, sculpture & jewellery making, farming.Through the Misaal India program we have created over 6000 village entrepreneurs who are self-reliant & are financially independent. This is a big achievement as gender discrimination in India starts from home where women r taught to cook & clean & become homemakers, education is available only to some not all. This trend is however changing as our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi @narendramodi has been extremely proactive in launching specials schemes & benefits towards the girl child. Our centres in villages hv women empowerment camps where we talk to the locals about the importance of education & how it brings with it employment & entrepreneurship.Employment & entrepreneurship bring with them economic independence. The women r taught that Empowerment can only come from economic independence. An empowered woman contributes equally to every decision, at every level, like anyone else in the household.
